Casa Azul aims to provide top notch programs and services to you, the Triad community. Growing our leaders helps us do just that.

National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC), in partnership with the North Carolina Humanities Council, held its Annual Regional Arts Training Workshops in North Carolina for the first time June 2-3, 2017.

Shifting Narratives: Latinx in the New South explored what it means to be Latinx in the South. Artists, cultural workers, cultural organizations, educators, and activist shared ways they are linking communities, building bridges, and increasing accessibility and visibility to the arts. They also discussed techniques for overcoming the challenges they face.

Claudia Femenias, president of Casa Azul, served on the panel “Building Visibility for Latinx Arts and Cultures in the Southeast.” She shared Casa Azul’s journey in the world of art and culture in our community. Board Members Angel Fuentes, Maria Harkins, Mariana Rodriguez-Pardy, Teresa Wellendorf, and Executive Administrator Jodi Johnson participated in sessions on advocacy, best business models, and State of Latinx Arts and Cultures in the South among others.

We learned so much and met wonderful artists and organizational leaders that are working to promote Latino art and cultures in the South.  The fresh Latino voices at the event were so invigorating!
